§ 9-1101. Legislative Findings.
(1) The Council finds that:
(a) The population of the City consists of people of every race, ethnicity, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, ancestry, age, disability, marital status, and familial
status. Many of these people are discriminated against in employment opportunities, public accommodations and obtaining adequate housing facilities. There are also members of the City population who are discriminated against based on their sources of income, as a result of their genetic information, or because they
are victims of domestic or sexual violence.

The Chaplain is responsible for the oversight and coordination of religious activities on campus. The Christian Association is an ecumenical Protestant campus ministry which seeks to be a public voice for a Progressive Christianity that is socially aware and intellectually rigorous. The LGBT-friendly clergy and staff is available for counseling, spiritual direction or as workshop leaders. Of particular concern is the way some use religion as justification for homophobia.

Hillel at Steinhardt Hall serves as the focus of Jewish communal activity on campus. A wide variety of social, intellectual, cultural, educational and religious programs serve the spectrum of interests and concerns of Jewish students and faculty. Hillel is open to the entire University community and supportive of a variety of student groups including J-BaGeL, the LGBT Jewish student organization. J-BageL is a safe space and social support group for Jewish LGBT undergrad and grad students and their allies. Funded by Hillel of Greater Philadelphia, J-BageL has members from Penn and other colleges throughout the Philadelphia area. J-BageL is associated with NUJLS, the National Union of Jewish LGBT Students, a federation of queer Jewish youth.

Friendly, non-political support group for transmen, female-to-male transexuals (FTM), and anyone who was assigned female at birth with gender identity issues or questions. The group meets from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm on the second and fourth Friday of every month. The first hour is open to SOFFAs (Significant Others, Friends, Family & Allies); the second hour is closed to those who self-identify somewhere on the transmasculine spectrum.

A drop-in support group for anyone identifying along the transgender spectrum. Please join us for support and psycho-education surrounding issues of gender, such as gender identity, gender presentation, and coming out to friends and family. This group provides a positive and supportive environment for people to explore their own evolution, as well as offer their support to others. Evolutions meets every Thursday from 6-7p at Mazzoni Center.
